Greetings from the DHS Alumni Association!

Welcome Denison High School alumni, visitors and former students of the DISD. Feel free to browse our website and get acquainted with the various classes and learn the goals of the Denison Alumni Association. Please send us reunion notices, class updates, pictures, etc., and they will be posted on this site for your fellow classmates to view.

Remember all the yellow jacket games, band, sports, academics, student council, friends and classmates. Favorite teachers. Pep rallies. Assemblies. You never know that what you may have said or done had an impact on another classmate's life. Take the time to look up old friends and reminisce about the good old days at DHS.

We encourage you to join the DHS Alumni Association, and we need your financial support as well as your involvement. Through our dues we not only publish the Traditions magazine but also award scholarships, honor distinguished alumni and sports hall of fame recipients, make school supply donations to nine schools for needy children, sponsor the Homecoming Parade and Scholars Among Us Project. Dues are $10.00 a year, BUT if you pay $100.00, you can be a member for as long as you live.

Also, Denison High School Alumni Directories are being available for $100 per copy. We have a limited number that we were able to get from the publisher. Contact Horace Groff, or they can be purchased at the Denison School Administration Office from Lisa Crawley.

ALUMNI BOARD MEETING

FOR JUNE, 2009

Deadline is nearing to nominate Distinguished Alumni and Sports Hall of Fame honorees to be named by the Denison High School Alumni Association. All nominations must be turned in by July 15.

Bobby Rogers, who is handling the Distinguished Alumni selection, said that eight persons have been nominated and members have indicated that more nominations are to come. A committee will make the selection.

Marvin Vincent, chairman of the Sports Hall of Fame selection, said that a committee will judge nominations for that honor. Five persons already have been nominated and at least two more are expected.

Nomination forms are available from Lisa Crawley at the Denison school administration office or can be found on the Association’s web page at www.denisonalumniassociation.com. A date to honor those selected by the board of the Association will be announced later.

Freddy Lessly, president, conducted the meeting when results of the Spring Fling held in April were reported. Betty Bair also reported that membership now stands at 612 with 247 of those lifetime members.

Lyndon Nix reported that the latest edition of “Traditions Magazine” should be ready for mailing by June 10.

Shellee McLaren said that reunions of the classes of 1969, 1984 and 1979 have been held. Vincent said the class of 1949 will have its 60^th reunion on Oct. 3. He will put together a traveling kit to be taken to reunions to enlist members with the association.

McLaren showed t-shirts that have been purchased by the group showing the name of the organization and large yellow jacket emblems. The shirts are available to members for $15. Anyone wanting one can contact her.

Roger Shires, incoming president of the Denison Education Foundation, was welcomed to the group.

The Association voted to purchase two 500 count boxes of pencils for each elementary school. The pencils will be printed with the name of the organization and will be available for distribution to the elementary students when they are needed. First day of school will be Aug. 24 and Homecoming is scheduled for Sept. 11.

Next meeting will be July 28 at the Denison Public Library.
