Denison Alumni Association

January 25, 2010      Denison Public Library

Freddy Lessly, with the help of Shelle Cassell, vice president, conducted the meeting Jan. 25 in the meeting room of the Denison Public Library.

No minutes were available, but will be read at the February meeting. A financial report was distributed by Freddy showing a balance in the money market account 12/31/09 and a total of $35,915.79 in the Association funds as of Dec. 31. Expenditures in December were $7,000 that included the fall Traditions.

Shelly McLaren reported that membership dues notices were sent before Jan. 1 and that 510 members had renewed or joined since that date, including 16 new lifetime members. In 2009 the association has 647 members and renewals are coming in every day.

Lyndon Nix said that things look good for the spring Traditions and that he needs photos and stories. Freddy read a letter from Lisa Crawly saying that advertisements need to be sold for the spring Traditions. Last year ads brought in $3,700 and the publication cost $3,797. She said that five people who advertised did not pay for their ads. It was suggested that they not be “sold” to those five again. Freddy will divide up the list of 40 advertisers between board members and will send the list to be sold to each board member.

Donna Hunt reported two yearbooks donated, a 1931 by Martin Wineinger, and a 1955 by Fred Lane this month. A packet of 1949 and 1950 Livestock Show winning ribbons and two class rings, 1918 and 1925, also have been donated to the association. Donna will place the rings in her safety deposit box at American Bank with notes in the minute book as to their location to be displayed when a proper location is available. A note is being placed with the rings that they are the property of the Alumni Association.

Freddy said that Horace Groff and the nominating committee will meet for lunch and work on securing new officers.

The association voted to change the 20 year rule as a qualification for admittance to the Sports Hall of Fame to 10 years out of high school. Lyndon made the motion and Laurel Goodman seconded it. The vote was unanimous.

Bobby Rogers announced that the class of 1954 is planning a reunion at Frontier Village June 11 and 12 with a prayer breakfast on Sunday morning at Golden Corral.

Freddy will take Alumni t-shirts to the next Denison Education Foundation meeting.

By-laws are still in the process of being updated. Freddy said scholarship donations for this school year will be placed on the February agenda. Two scholarships were given in 2009.

Next meeting will be Feb. 22, 2010 in the meeting room at the library.
