The following poem was written by Jack Goff, Class of 1966, as a tribute to the teachers at their 40th Class Reunion held over DHS Homecoming weekend, September 14-16, 2006.
TEACHERS…GOTTA LOVE ’EM !
If it were not for teachers, Where would we be? Traveling down life’s highway, No smarter than a flea.
If it were not for teachers, On a corner we might stand, With a sign reading “Need Food” And a tin can in our hand.
If it were not for teachers, And the knowledge they did sow, Challenging us to strive for more And helping us to grow.
If it were not for teachers, A better life could pass us by, We could find ourselves years down the road, Trying not to cry.
So let us honor our teachers, On this night of celebration, We thank you for a job well done, We salute your dedication.
Teachers present at the Class of 1966 reunion were: Dr. Henry Scott Dr. Bill Blankenship Verna Blood Roger Hanson Gregory Roman Dr. Francis Willis
