DENTON LUNCH BUNCH
MEETING NOTES FOR APRIL 16, 2008
When Roy Thomas, David
Maddux, Marvin Vincent, and Britt Swain agree to help get the word
out for one of our meetings, you can bet we will have a great
crowd. Today was no exception. Yes, we had 76 participants and we
all had a great time reliving some good ole Denison High School
days.
The classes of 1948 and
1958 were honored on their 60th and 50th
anniversaries of high school graduation.
We visited and ate for
almost an hour then had a short program highlighting the senior year
of each class. It was amazing how great the memory of the folks was
when an administrator, teacher or student was mentioned—without
hesitation, the person was identified by the group. In fact, Britt
Swain recalled that he was thrown out of a basketball game because
of Clifton Weaver. It seems someone was picking on Clifton and
Britt came to his defense—as a result Britt was kicked out of the
game. Clifton told him his sister Rose Marie (Class of 1948)
defended him at Central Ward so he just assumed the Class of 1948
were all his protectors. It was also mentioned that Dorothy
(Bryant) Wyskup was one of the composers of our DHS school
song—yeah, right there in our group-the Composer! When I say we had
royalty with us, you now know we are telling the truth.
We had so many first
timers present it was truly a reunion of former friends and
acquaintances.
Some of those who wanted
to be present were out for various reasons: Bob Rutledge had a
medical appointment. Glenn Land had a previous commitment but said
to say Hello to everyone and he will see you in September. Margaret
Posey had other plans. Mary Kolmer had knee replacement surgery but
is doing well. Corky and Jean Bowling wanted to come but Jean had a
medical problem. Corky said Hello to everyone and hopes to see all
at the Reunion . Monna Buckley was planning to attend but her plans
changed at the last minute. Jo Ellen Harmon is ill—she never
misses. Hang in there Jo Ellen; we will see you in July. It was so
nice to see Judy Maddux able to be present. Our prayers are with
you and David, Judy.
Marvin Vincent gave a very
good summary of how the Denton Lunch Bunch started and that this is
the 102nd consecutive meeting of the group. Evidently,
the guys and ladies enjoy being together (at least once per month).
One of our members, Jackie
Walton, passed away last month and the group contributed to a
memorial fund to be sent to the DHS Alumni Association for student
scholarships. If you were absent and want to contribute, please
send your donation to Jay Bates, 3909 Acacia, Ft. Worth , TX 76109
. We will mail the money within a week or so.

your name to the list.
Marvin announced that the
Traditions magazine of the Alumni Association is almost ready to
mail. If you want a copy, please mail your Alumni dues
to Marvin and he will place your name on the distribution list.
Many of you know the magazine is an outstanding publication
for all of us former DHS students.
Britt Swain, announced the 60th
Reunion of the Class of 1948 will be held September 20 at the
Episcopal Church Parish Hall, Denison . Details will
be available soon. You can register at the new Holiday
Inn Express, Denison by calling 1-800-465-4329 for reservations.
Britt and Patsy can be contacted by phone (903-465-7041) or
email (bpswain@sbcglobal.net).
Britt told us it will be similar to the 55th
Reunion . Also, all classes are invited but you should
contact the Swains for information.
All the stuff we
did in the program today is attached—just in case you missed some
part of the activity.
I don’t know how many expressed
the great time they had today, but, as you know, we can’t return to
our high school days with very many people without a great deal of
“What’s wrong with that guy” judgment. I suppose that
is why our Lunch Bunch group enjoys being together every month where
we can enjoy some of our youth without evaluation.
Again, we thank all of you for
attending today and hope you will come again.
